A Free Market Economy Manifesto

                                                                                                                                                                               is a performative video in which Teemu Siika delivers a ritualized proclamation composed of quotations from canonical economic thinkers. Dressed in a black wool suit and balaclava, the artist adopts the visual language of coercive broadcast and ideological address.

The work examines the naturalized rhetoric of capitalism, staging doctrines that frame markets as inevitable, self-regulating, and morally justified. Through performative excess, abstract ideology is rendered corporeal, sensory, and unstable. Authority is enacted rather than argued.

Through the tension between canonical language and embodied performance, the work exposes contradictions between ideological abstraction and lived experience. Ritualized gestures destabilize claims of neutrality, revealing the affective and symbolic labor through which economic narratives sustain legitimacy. Freedom, control, and the myth of the self-regulating market are interrogated through satire that amplifies the absurd and grotesque dimensions of power.
